Italian sportswear maker Lotto Sport Italia hopes to sell US$20m worth of its footwear, clothing and accessories in Brazil over the next three years after signing a licensing agreement with Filon Confecções Ltda.

Under the terms of the deal, Filon Confecções will manufacture and market Lotto branded products throughout Brazil until 31 December 2009, with a renewal option for a further 3 years.
As well as selling the Lotto international collection, the two companies may also introduce articles specially designed for the Brazilian market.

Distribution will be through both the sport trade channel, specialised soccer stores, and through Filon's own stores.

"Landing in Brazil is an important breakthrough for Lotto," commented Andrea Tomat, president of Lotto Sport Italia.

"The combination of our product expertise and our new partner's coverage of the country's territory plus its consolidated experience in soccer, will allow us to achieve significant results in a country which is the symbol of soccer."

Filon, which has a large headquarters in San Paolo, was established in 1986.

Brazil is the world's fifth largest nation in population terms, with over 185m inhabitants, and the largest market in South America. It is also considered the home of soccer, and has one of world's largest groups of professional and amateur players.
